Consolidation in fuel stations and charging infrastructure

The Italian energy group Enilive is acquiring 15 fuel station locations from Oil! in six Austrian federal states. This continues a trend that already began with the announced takeover of the BP fuel station and charging point network by the Swiss company Volenergy at around 250 locations. For DEA members, this is above all a sign of how strongly energy and mobility infrastructure in Austria is currently being reorganized: those who charge their e-car or refuel in the future will increasingly do so at international corporations rather than well-known domestic brands. For citizen energy communities, the generation and use of electricity on-site remains unaffected by this – one's own PV system and the electricity generated collectively are independent of such corporate takeovers. However, the consolidation shows how attractive the Austrian energy market currently is for foreign investors. We are keeping an eye on this development, because in the medium term it can also affect charging infrastructure offerings for members with e-vehicles.
